I'm happy to hear it! Thank you for the comment!

Thank God I found the site again, I accidentally removed it from my favorites while trying to see if it got updated, My heart almost exploded because I couldn't find it in the recommendation, Thank God you have the link on your Twitter 😂

This VN is actually Important to me to some extent so if something happens to it, I'd be devastated 😂

(+1)

Oh no, Ace! Please don't worry - if After Years is going somewhere, it's only forward :)

That's great to hear ^^

(+1)

Thanks for making this VN! I'm really liking the story, I think it's very cute and I hope you keep updating it when you can! 😊

(+1)

Hey, Nikkz! Thank you for the comment - I'm happy to hear it. The next public update is planned for the end of December, so stay tuned!

I cant launch it on macos

Hello, stanamelia.
Please try out the web-version of the game instead:
https://tyrving.itch.io/after-years-web-browser-version?secret=2xVhaOotNJrmXN445...
Just a quick note - Safari is not supported, so play using either Chrome or Firefox.

Just curious, what's the update schedule like for this fantastic VN?

(+1)

Hey, Dreamer! The game doesn't have any fixed schedule at the moment - I work on it pretty much everyday, whenever I only have a chance, but the progress is not always the same. Usually, the updates come in one and half of the month - the next public release should arrive by the end of December.

Thank you for playing the game!

(+1)

Why does it seem like everyone who posts in here has been devoting to one route and not playing the others yet, including me lol?!

I just loved Kegar so much, and I absolutely love what we have for him so far, and knowing that the next update is supposed to be for him as well makes me so excited, even if it is supposed to be shorter than usual.  Keep up the great work @Tyrving, and hope you're doing well in life!

(+1)

Thank you very much - I'm doing great! The next update for Kegar is indeed a bit shorter than the usual, but it's pretty wholesome, if I can say so myself. As for the fact that readers choose only one route out of three, I was surprised by this too, but then I realized that usually, I'm doing the same when I play other fVNs :-) Having that in mind, despite the split in the story, I'm still trying to write the scenes in a way to give everyone some attention (so the readers will be able to see their favourite character in a different light).

(+1)

I'm really loving this game! I love Angus, he's a precious boy💙 I'm looking forward to seeing more for this great game! Was hard to not play it xD

Hello, Donnyboy! Thank you for playing the game and for your kind words! I'm very happy to hear that you enjoy it! :)

(+1)

Of course! Keep up the great work!<3

This game is great so far, but I have to ask, what do you mean when you say it contains NSFW content?

Deleted 3 years ago

Hey, thank you for playing the game! By saying NSFW content I mean adult content, which at the current stage of the project are nudity and suggestive dialogues/innuendos (which just as Iliksiis mention, apply mostly for Angus's part of the story).

(+1)

😀😀😀😀😀😀

I'm waiting for next update

The game is awesome I like the new update

I'm glad to hear it! Thank you for playing!

How do you go back on text with the web browser version?

(+2)

you can't rollback the story in this one, but if you press [b] when there isn't a line loading, it pulls up the log that you can read through.

(+1)

To start with a mundane question, When is the browser version going up?

To add clarification on a totally separate matter: I don't have a problem with how Kegar looks. He is totally sweet and likable, and I am still preventing myself from playing the other routes. He is also very cute, which suits his personality wonderfully, especially considering how supportive and sensitive he is. The only issue is that he does not look like a lion. The game refers to him as a lion, and knowing that clashes with both his appearance and other details in the script, such as him apparently having no fur covering his body so he need sunscreen all over. Lions actually have fur that is specifically able to protect them from the harsh sun of the savannas they live in. So while I can't speak for everyone, I can say for myself that Kegar looks wonderful, and he is an amazing character and honestly the most expressive one so far, even though he has the least screen time so far, pre-route selection. The issue isn't how he looks, rather the fact that how he looks doesn't quite line up with other significant context, and It can be rather off-putting. It's not a bad thing, and I would never hate on a character so wonderful, but there is always room to improve and we are here cheering you on the whole way. [insert thumbs-up emoticon here]

(+2)

Hello KesricMorden. Thank you so much for sharing your thought. I'm very happy to hear that you like Kegar. I'll definitely improve the script to clarify the case related to his appearance, to make it sound less confusing/ off-putting. The way you just explained it to me gave me some ideas.

(+1)

I'm glad I can help! Don't get discouraged, you're doing fantastically with this vn, and I am incredibly exited to see where you take it!

(+1)

Thank you for your kind words. Also, I totally forgot to reply to your question about the Web-Browser version of the game - you can find link in my new devlog I just posted: https://tyrving.itch.io/after-years/devlog/195345/new-release-web-browser-versio...

Thank you! I actually already went and played through kegar's new update, and was delighted. I do have to say however, that my computer is rather small, and while the vn did run smoothly, it did not adjust to the window size. I was still able to enjoy it, and there were only a couple of times that it ever actually cut off some of the text. Just letting you know, it honestly wasn't a big deal.

(+1)

I see. That's good to hear. Thank you for letting me know about it!

I’m so happy I get to get back to playing this game again! When is the web browser version coming out?

Hey~! I will be launching a new game page dedicated to the web browser version in a few hours - still gotta make a few more tweaks here and there :)

Hello again. The web browser version is out! You can find link in my new devlog I just posted: https://tyrving.itch.io/after-years/devlog/195345/new-release-web-browser-versio...

(+1)

When will we get a Rowley update?

Because of the unplanned cliffhanger in v.0.8.0, Kegar got one more update (v.0.9.0, which is already out for Patrons). Update v.0.10.0 would be for Rowley's story, however, I highly encourage you to check out both of Kegar's updates, because Rowley also shows up in there and have a significant contribution to this part of story.

(+2)

I have to be honest and admit that I don't find Kegar attractive, but, sure I'll check it out.

(3 edits)

All in All, the game looks and feel great, despite the uncommon way (when compared to other novels around) the saving system is designed haha

But so i like the kegar, still playing the game (pretty much at the start), and just checked the comments about the same thing i'm about to talk, but....
...Kegar looks so much more like a monkey (a marmoset or tamarin)  than a lion, it seems theres some reason in the story behind his looks (as you answered before) so i guess gotta wait and play more until it

Black-tufted marmoset (sagui-de-tufos-pretos).jpgGolden-headed Lion Tamarin, River Safari, Singapore (27617881620).jpg

(+1)

Ah, yeah, the saving system is truly abysmal when it comes to this engine and releasing multiple builds - even if you manually move your save files from one demo to another, the game still remembers the script from the old demo (so, for example it won't transfer you to another scene as it should in the updated version).

As for Kegar's looks, I can't really say anything more than you've already read in my previous replies to other readers. It's sad and actually very surprising to me to hear that so many people find his appearance on a weird note. Nevertheless, thank you for reaching to me about it - I will keep in mind to add a question about him in the upcoming survey.

(1 edit)

its mostly just face /head, but yeah... hard for me to seelion there Haha sorry to bring back such topic

PURRRRRRRFECT~

I've been waiting for this all month not gonna lie X

(+1)

Enjoy the game, Ace! And please let me know what you think about Kegar's story so far :)

(+1)

overall... cute development from kegar'd shy personality and... um... well lets just say his reactions most of the time were cute 😂

Also, I LOVED the idea of Kegars past time of spending his time in the rain, (Mostly because I do it to) and I think its cute considering the fact that we first met him after a rain, So It makes a cute little connection...😄

But let's talk about the blush~ 😏

HAHA, IT'S SO CUTE I'M GONNA DIE 😆

overall, Everyone's storry is slowly getting better and better than before, Not that there was something wrong, I just find it constantly improving is all 😊

I'd give everyone's update a 9/10 because I'm still lacking in information of what ACTUALLY happened in that gay bar 😏😂

(+1)

Yes, there is a difference in early chapters in terms of scene flow and writing - I'm constantly improving both my English and my writing skills and I hope I will be able to get even better! As for the gay bar situation - it will be clarified in Angus's route :-)

(1 edit)

Ah, thank you then, I wish you good health! also rremember not to overdo it okay? Rest when you need to ^^

yehey thanks

Hi it's November 10 now😅😅😅😅😅😅

It is~! Just a little longer, I'm deploying builds and upload them atm :-)

This game is wonderful I'll wait the next update what date you release the nest update I'm so exited😀😀😀😀😀

(+1)

Hello Mr. hudky! Thank you for playing the game. I still have a few things to improve here and there, but the next public build should arrive around November 10th. Fingers crossed :-)

Thank you for responding

(+1)

yea i think angus is my favorite, his personality just pulls me in.

(+1)

I'm glad to hear it! The upcoming updates will focus on the other two character, but I still hope that you will find them interesting as well.

Ah one more thing ! On Mac I've ran into this problem when I press esc to exit out the settings.

(+1)

Hello again!

This is actually well-known problem for all MacOS games made in RPG Maker engine that wasn't deployed in MacOS environment (I'm using Windows PC). Apparently, a game deployed in this way doesn't have all the internal premissions to be able to write a new file, thus, it doesn't allow you to create a new save/ a file for the game settings.
But no worries, I'm planning to soon release a web-browser version of the game (along with the new upcoming public update), which should (hopefully) solve the problem.

This VN was a wonderful experience. I've been following this game since before the author ported all of the story and assets over to a new engine. Every year I check back in to see what kind of progress has been made and I have never been let down.

One of the pitfalls that a lot of visual novels run in to is that their romance options can be too archetypical and lack depth. This visual novel does NOT suffer from this issue. Rowley, Angus, and Kegar are all delectably written. Their pathos is conveyed simply and elegantly. I trust the story the author is telling. In this cynical, hyper-critical world that is the greatest praise I can give a story.

If I had one piece of constructive criticism for the creator, it would be the suggestion to include small alternative choices in dialog for the protagonist. In many visual novels we are the observer of a character navigating through their own life. In a romantic-oriented visual novel like this it may help with player immersion if they had a few opportunities to decide why Welkin feels the way they do. Perhaps give multiple options of pizzas for Welkin to suggest to Angus, or allow the player to choose which ruins to investigate with Rowley on morning of day 2. Perhaps when Angus asks "Why are you so quiet?" on Day 1, instead of responding "Oh, I was just enjoying the scenery," Welkin could play coy, or not give a response. Opportunities for player expression can only ever help, imho. I trust the author to be able to implement these kinds of options tastefully if they are interested in doing so.

I eagerly await more and will be supporting Tyrving on Patreon so that I can get my fix!

(P.S. I'm team Angus, although Rowley has been growing on me.)

(+1)

Hello Klaus, thank you for your kind words. I'm delighted to hear that you like the whole cast and that you enojoy the way I portrayed them. And yes, while this is a 'slice of life' kind of story, I still wanted it to be an escape from the everyday life - a story that should make the reader feel warm and cozy.

As for the dialogue choices I'm slowly making a shift to introduce these in the character routes. The plan is, that for now, I will write dialogue branches only for the most important decisions that could affect the story/ending of the route (although, I'm not ruling out adding some minor, flavour choices here and there, even in the early part of the script).

Last but not least, THANK YOU SO MUCH for supporting me over Patreon - it means a lot to me, and truth is, that this project couldn't exist without the help of kind people like you. Thank you once more. Please enjoy the game.

(+1)

kinda reminds me of morenatsu

I can't blame you for thinking this way - Morenatsu was indeed one of the main inspirations to make my own game like this ;)

(1 edit) (+1)

omg you repsoned to my text well thx, but the game is rlly nice tho wait ing for update:)

Finished 0.7.0.  Really loved the characters so far. The only issue is Kegar doesn’t look like a lion lol. Really appreciate the option to choose dialogue options and start from the new build feature.

Hey, CR1MSUN. Thank you for sharing your opinion. I'm glad to hear you enjoy the game and I'm happy to know that you find the quick resume feature useful. And don't worry, a lot of readers have an issue with Kegar's appearance, but that's the part of his story.

Does anyone else have issues saving in the Mac version of the game? When I choose the file and select Save, it just gives the same error chime as choosing any of the greyed-out options and no save occurs.

I do, I don't get why

Hey guys. Thank you for getting in touch. This is acutally well-known problem for all MacOS games made in RPG Maker engine that wasn't deployed in MacOS enviroment (I'm using Windows PC). Apparently, a game deployed in this way doesn't have all the internal premissions to be able to write a new file, thus, it doesn't allow you to create a new save.

That's why, for now, the game features a few options to resume the story from a certain points (days), to make it easier to jump in and resume your progress.

I'm also planning to soon release a web-browser version of the game (along with the new upcoming public update), so please give it a try and let me know if it solved the problem.

it doesn't start for me at all

(+1)

Absolutely love this, Kegar is so sweet and likable that I'm stopping myself from moving past the route selection cause I want to do his first. My literal only issue with the entire vn is his art. Kegar is stated to be a lion, but his sprite looks more like a Dr. Seuss monkey. I still absolutely love the guy, but it could be even better.

(+1)

Thank you for playing the game and for your kind words! I'm really happy to hear that you enjoy the game and Kegar's company. The two upcoming public updates (v.0.8.0) and (v.0.9.0) are all tied to his story, so definitely stay tuned! :) (A new release is planned for beginning of November). As for Kegar's design, I know it's kind of polarizing, but that's exactly how it supposed to be - his unusual appearance plays a significant role in his story, and I can only hope I will be able to give it a proper execution in the latter part of the game. Again, thank you for the comment!

I'm having performance issues with the android build, It takes seconds for any of my inputs to be registered. My tablet doesn't have problems with games or other visual novels.

Hey, NPS7, thanks for letting me know about the problem. Could you tell me what device you use? (or the specs).

(1 edit)

Lenovo Tab 4 8", Snapdragon 425, 2 GB RAM.

Yeah it's not great but I've never had performance problems with anything until now.

I see! Thank you for the response.
After Years can be problematic on some devices because it uses a different engine than most of the fVNs out here (it's RPG Maker, rather than RenPy). RPG Maker is known for not-so great optimalization on mobile devices, because this engine heavily relies on a single CPU core performance (long story short, it's more PC friendly). To add the salt to the injury, I also decided to make the game in a high resoution of 1920x1080 px, which can also take a quite a hit on the performance. Sadly, I've realized about it way too late, and now, it would require a massive amount of work to make changes in this regard (scaling every picture that shows up in every scene, relocation all the game menus etc).

So yeah, to summarize - your device is by all means powerful enough to run a simple game like this - the real problem is the engine itself, and my mistake to not code the core script of the game with the mobile platform in mind (I simply wasn't aware how big Android user base is here on itch.io). I just hope that the low framerate won't discourage you from reading the novel - the game doesn't feature any "quick time actions", so you shouldn't experience any more unconviniences along the way.

Hi tyrving, just a question, are you planning to switch from your currently using engine to renpy? Or rather make a renpy version for android

Hey Shu-Chi! As much as I'm aware of how the game would benefit from switching to Renpy in terms of improved gameplay fluidity, I'm afraid it's not enough of a reason to put a months of worktime to move a project in such advanced state to a whole different platform that I have zero knowledge about. Please believe me that, while VNs might not seem to be a difficult games to pull off, making one version of the game is enough of a headache, especially when you work on it alone making all the writing, coding, testing, editing, drawing, managing two sites and preparing a content for promotion and the supporters.

I must ask though, what is the exact reason you would like to see the game on Renpy? Is there a lack of certain feature or is the game having some technical/ performance issues?

Am I dreaming* proceeds to wake up* shieeeeeet

;_;

Have you thought of including a backlog history function, so we can read what has been said by the characters?

The backlog is already available in the desktop version of the game - as for the Android build, I'm still trying to figure out how to add more gestures to make it possible.

OMG I LOVES THE NEW UPDATE!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Hello HarrazZZ, thank you for playing the game - I'm very happy to hear it!

is there no backlog function in android version? :<

Sadly, not yet - I'm still trying to figure out how to add more gestures to the mobile version of the game.

(+1)

Are the other routes available

(+3)

Hello! Angus' route will be available in the upcoming Public build, while Kegar's in the upcoming Patreon build. Both versions are going to be released in only a few days.

(+1)

Thanks for the information

Mr what date you release the version0.8.0

I will be aiming to deliever a new demo by the end of October.

Really like it. I look foward to see more in Angus route and Rowley route. Good work and I can't wait for future updates!

(+1)

Thank you kindly :)

You're welcome! Keep up the good work, man! :)

(+2)

Any news of when an update will becoming out but love the story so far real great

(+3)

Hello, Cloded Leopard. Thank you for playing the game. I'm very happy to hear you enjoy the story. The new public build should be available in about two weeks (maybe a bit earlier), so stay tuned.

(+1)(-1)

(SPOILERS)

Does it forcefully end with only 1 character or am i missing something? Or update...

No, you're not missing anything - the current public build allows you to choose only one of the characters at this point. Update 7 brings Angus's story and update 8 will bring Kegar's story.

(+2)

I love the game so far keep up the amazing work

I'm happy to hear it! Thank you for your kind words.

I’m having problems playing this game on Mac. It keeps repeating The application “game” can’t be opened. What should I do?

Hello! I'm sorry to hear about this issue. I've never used MacOS system myself, so I'm afraid I won't be able to help you with this problem. However, once I release a new demo, I'm planning to host an online version of the game here on itch.io, so it will be possible to play it directly from internet browser. I cross my fingers that this version will allow you to experience the game.

Thank you for your comment, and please stay tuned :)

Question: Will there be a gallery down the line?

Hello MidnightAzure. The CG gallery is currently reserved for Patreon builds only.

(+1)

Why is it that I long for a life like this? A life where I actually have friends... Is it me or... Am I lonely?

ANYWAY! THIS IS SUCH A GREAT GAME! I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT GROW BECAUSE IT HAS SUCH A GREAT POTENTIAL!

(+1)

Thank you for your kind words, Ace - I'm delighted to hear that you enjoy the game :)

I'll be patiently waiting for kegars route update because he's currently my favorite! ^^

(+1)

YAYYYY!!!! NEW UPDATE!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCHHHHHHHH!!!!!
